Celebrating 330 years of Holy Trinity Church in Gosport
Sunday 27 September was a very special day for Holy Trinity, as we marked 330 years since the Consecration of our church.
The day began with a splendid Parish Mass, celebrated with a full team of servers, as we gave thanks for 330 years of Christian worship and witness in this corner of Gosport. During the Mass, our new altar cross was dedicated and installed. Crafted from timber from the desk of HMY Brittania and generously donated by local parishioners, the cross is a fitting reminder of our town’s maritime heritage and now sits on the altar of the Jesus Chapel.
Following Mass, the congregation gathered for a Bring and Share lunch in the Capper Room along with a fascinating display exploring the history of Holy Trinity through the centuries.
In the afternoon, we enjoyed our regular monthly hymn singalong, before concluding the day’s festivities with Evening Prayer and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. We are pleased to announce that this will be taking place on the last Sunday of every month from now on as part of our roster of weekly Evening Prayer.
Throughout the day, we gave thanks for all those who have gone before us: parishioners, clergy and local residents who have sustained the life of this parish through worship, fellowship and service. As we celebrated God's faithfulness over the past 330 years, we also prayed for the future of our church and town, asking for God’s strength to help us continue to serve each other and the community in Gosport in the years to come.
