Biographies
Angie Jones, MD of The Lowry Girls, worked as a teacher in Hampshire between 1979 and 2020, having moved from Worcestershire, where she taught in Special and Secondary schools. Her formal music journey started, aged 50, with recorder lessons from Christopher Burgess, the then M.D of the Hampshire Recorder Sinfonia. She now plays in that orchestra, the Upham Recorder Orchestra and the Wessex Society of Recorder Players.
Angie participates in the Sing for Pleasure Conductor Training programme, attending weekend training courses, and also Summer Schools at Cambridge and Keele Universities. The Lowry Girls, a choir for upper voices, was born after one memorable week at Keele.
Carolyn Wilkinson, Lowry Girls’ Accompanist, has played the piano since the age of nine and went on to study Music to Diploma level at King Alfred’s College, Winchester. During her studies she developed a love of performance and recital work and she still enjoys performing today - often with her former college duet partner.
She began her career teaching children’s piano lessons before moving into primary education, where she has taught for many years and served as an enthusiastic and dedicated music lead. As an accompanist, Carolyn has worked with both children’s and adult choirs and has directed several ensembles. Passionate about inspiring young people through singing and music, she continues to lead a thriving school choir and is currently the headteacher of a local primary school.
Leanne Farley, Guest Music Teacher, has had a long and successful musical career, teaching in schools locally and further afield.
She also runs a busy private teaching practice at home, offering flute, clarinet, piano, recorder, theory and aural lessons to all ages and abilities. She prepares students for ABRSM, MTB, GCSE and A’ level exam performances and students have been successful in gaining music scholarships at local independent schools. In 2016, Leanne qualified as a member of the ABRSM examining panel and now enjoys examining tours around the UK three times a year as well as being a digital performance grade examiner at home.
