Biography

Alex Flower is a freelance organist and teacher based in London. He is the Organist at St. George’s Cathedral Southwark, where he plays for the weekly schedule of services, and works with the children’s choirs and professional lay clerks. He is also a keen music teacher, working with St Paul’s School, King’s College Wimbledone and Dulwich College as organ teacher, and is always proud to be introducing the organ to more young people. He is a prizewinning Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, and regularly appears around London as a freelance soloist, accompanist and continuo player.

Teenage organ studies in Gosport, Hampshire under Geoffrey Holroyde, led Alex to hold the organ scholarship at Worcester College, Oxford University. He graduated with a First Class BA in Music and played for various services, concerts and album recordings, studying organ with William Whitehead. Subsequently, he held positions at two London churches, St Mary’s Bourne Street and St Cyprian’s Clarence Gate, before starting at St George’s Cathedral. Alex is also a keen saxophonist, having recently graduated with Distinction and prizes from the Guildhall School of Music’s MMus jazz performance course. Occasionally, he is allowed to play some saxophone alongside the choir of St George’s Cathedral, and he enjoys dabbling with jazz organ when no one is listening!

Organ Recital: Nigel Morris

We are delighted to welcome Nigel Morris who joins us on Monday 19th January at 1pm to play an organ recital in memory of Geoffrey Holroyde, who died in December last year.

Geoffrey was the man who introduced the Teatime concerts and Monday recitals in 2008 when he was working hard to raise money for the historic organ at Holy Trinity. Geoffrey was instrumental in raising money for the organ and taking the lead on a successful bid to the National Lottery Fund which resulted in a complete restoration of the organ in 2012.

I am sure Geoffrey would be delighted to hear the 'Handel' organ that he loved so much being played by his old friend Nigel Morris… Please join us for a memorable Monday recital at Holy Trinity Gosport!

David Hall - a versatile musiciam who is equally at home playing cathedral evensong, running a children’s choir or directing a big band. He studied the piano with Laura Cole and Freni Cha and the organ with Anne Marsden Thomas at the Royal Acadamy of Music. In 1996, he was appointed organ scholar at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. In the following years, he played regularly at Chelmsford Cathedral and became Assistant Director of Music at Felsted School in Essex. David is now Director of Music at Twyford School in Hampshire and Musical Director of Finchcocks Piano Courses in Kent. He combines these three roles with freelance work accompanying, conducting and composing. Under his leadership, the children at Twyford School have take part in ten professional operas at Grange Park, have recorded two CDs and have sung in concert tours of France and Italy. David is the author of the interactive book and video series There’s More to Playing the Piano, which is an innovative introduction to music theory and keyboard harmony.

Erin Nizolak is an American soprano from Seattle. She earned her Bachelor of Music with a minor in English from Western Washington University, where she performed in choral concerts, art song recitals, opera scenes, and premiered a role in a newly composed operetta. She served a church cantor, finding in sacred music a space of discipline and devotion. After graduation, her family traveled to South Korea, Germany, and now England. Throughout these travels, and amid the joyful uproar of raising five children, music remained a steady thread. Erin returned to solo performance this past October at St Faith’s. She is grateful for the chance to lift her voice and share in the beauty of live music ad we are delighted that she has chosen to sing with LCS!

Hector Walker is a singer, conductor and composter from Farnham, Surrey. Having sung in choirs for as long as he can remember, including stints in the National Youth Choir and at the Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor (frequently performing at church services for Queen Elizabeth), Hector graduated from the University of Southampton in 2025 with a Bacherlor’s degree in music specialising in vocal performance, choral conducting and commercial composition. He has performed with numerous ensembles while at university, including as a baritone soloist for Faure’s Requiem with the Brockenhurst Choral Society; and as the conductor of the Southampton University Singers, the university’s largest choir, for three years. When not singing, Hector works as a music and theatre technician at Frensham Heights School and in his spare time enjoys songwriting and playing Dungeons and Dragons.

Biography

At Oxford, Anthony studied with Dr Bernard Rose. An F.R.C.O., he was appointed Sub-Organist of Llandaff Cathedral and Director of Music in the Cathedral School. Later he became Organist and Choirmaster of Romsey Abbey, where he revitalised the choir.

He returned to teaching as Director of Music at Norman Court School. Foreign tours with his Choristers included recitals in Notre-Dame, Paris, and singing Sunday Mass in St Mark's, Venice. Anthony must be one of the few organists to have played the ‘cello in Chartres Cathedral: the senior choristers also used to play their instruments and on that day the cellist had fallen ill!

Since retiring from full-time Teaching. Anthony has specialised in organ playing. This has included Advanced Studies with Jacques van Oortmerssen in Amsterdam, Sophie-Véronique Cauchefer-Choplin in Paris and Daniel Moult in London, which has led to an increasingly busy programme of recitals, including regular tours of Germany and France.

He initially studied cornet and violin at the School of Music, before transferring to solo cornet. During his period of training he won several prizes, including the Bronze medal for the Cassel Prize.

He passed out of training early and joined Commader-in-Chief Fleet Band. After this he was drafted back to the Royal Marines School of Music Staff Band at Deal, until the closure of Deal Barracks in 1996. He passed his promotional course for the rank of Sergeant in 2000, gaining the Dip ABRSM diploma in conducting. He also holds the CT ABRSM qualification in instrumental teaching and the LTCL diploma in Trumpet Performance. During his time in the Royal Marines he played many solos at prestigious venues and events, including at the Royal Albert Hall and for an estimated audience of eleven thousand at the International Festival of the Sea.
