Organ Recital: Oliver Macfarlane

We are delighted to welcome back Oliver Macfarlane who will be playing for us at Holy Trinity Church, Gosport, at 1pm on Monday 15th September. We always enjoy Oliver's recitals and admire his performance every time. Monday's recital features music by Buxtehude, Liszt, Saint-Saens, Jirak and Widor. Biography

Oliver Macfarlane is an organist based in Guildford. His full-time music education began at Winchester School of Art, followed by four years at the Royal College of Music, where he gained his graduate and performing diplomas in both piano and organ. Oliver studied organ with Richard Popplewell, Gillian Weir and also at the International Summer Academy in Haarlem, Holland. In recent years he has embarked on further organ studies specialising in French repertoire with Ben van Oosten in The Hague. He has given many organ recitals including at the London churches of St Brides Fleet Street, St George's Hanover Square and St Michael's Cornhill, and also the cathedrals of Bristol, Truro, Worcester and St Giles' Edinburgh.

Currently he is Organist at Christ Church Esher, and a deputy organist for St Mary s Stoke D'Abernon, Cobham in Surrey.

Oliver Macfarlane had a career in broadcasting production with the BBC. In Television Classical Music he was series editor of performance output where his portfolio of programmes included the BBC Proms, the prestigious Young Musician of the Year competition, the conducting series Maestro, concerts from the Barbican, and several opera and ballet relays from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. In 2013 Oliver left the BBC to concentrate on playing the organ.
